For many women, breasts are the essence of their womanhood, so it’s no wonder that they are conscious about their size and shape.
The size and shape preferred is a choice that is unique and personal to each to each individual. But there is no doubt that if a woman feels her breasts are too large, too small, or not as firm as she would like, they can be a source of unhappiness, making them feel less attractive on the inside as well as the outside.
Breast surgery is one of the most popular surgical procedures.
Small breasts or breasts that have decreased in size, asymmetrical one breast smaller than the other, or changed in shape, following child birth can be a source of anxiety to a woman. Breast augmentation can make you feel more feminine by not only increasing the size of your breasts, but also adjusting their shape to produce a better symmetry. There are many different types of implants available your surgeon will discuss this with you.
BREAST AUGMENTATION EXPLAINED
A breast augmentation operation will be performed under a general anesthetic and will take approximately 1-1.5 hours. An incision approximately 5cms long may be made in the crease of the underside of the breast, the under-arm (armpit) or lower edge of the areola. Most commonly this will be in the crease of the breast, your surgeon will advise you on the most appropriate area for yourself.
Once the incision is made, the surgeon will create a pocket for the implant to lie in. This may be either beneath the muscle or beneath the breast tissue. Your size and shape will determine the outcome of the position of the implant and will be discussed fully at your consultation with the surgeon.
Following the surgery you will have stitches (these may be dissolvable) at the point of incision, covered with a dressing .Following breast augmentation you will be advised to wear a sports bra for 24 hours a day for up to 3 months .It is also advisable to refrain from too much physical activity during this recovery period of time. Your stitches and /or dressings will be removed after 7 days, at which time you can return to work.
BREAST UPLIFT SURGERY (MASTOPEXY)
A number of factors can cause women’s breasts to lose their shape and become saggy such as weight loss, having children or simply the passage of time. Exercise can help, but breast uplift surgery is sometimes necessary. Shapeless breasts can have a negative effect on self esteem, but breast uplift surgery corrects the position of the breasts to give you a rejuvenated appearance, breasts become youthful and firm with a lasting boost to your confidence.
Breast uplift surgery can be done without significantly altering the size of your breasts, although some patients take the opportunity to have a breast enlargement at the same time.
